A Plan Is As Close As It Comes to a Silver Bullet

Here’s the catch. Not just any plan will do. Writing a half-assed list of things to do and some waffly goals does not constitute a plan. You need a well-constructed, well thought-out, 3-layer-deep plan.

A Plan Is As Close As It Comes to a Silver Bullet

Most people have been around long enough to know there is no silver bullet, if only because they have heard it said so many times. Meaning that nothing comes easy or without the investment of some time and effort and the requisite skills to arrive at a silver bullet-y outcome.

So why in the name of Zeus do we take on all the extra work and struggle of being a business owner when nothing is going to be easy?

Because benefits. Those are for another post and only you can really know yours, so let’s just assume you want to do it and the end result is shiny and magnificent.

So don’t stand there, stuck, with your “World’s Best Martyr” shirt on. Lemme help you out. I know how you can get to that goal with as little stress and anxiety as possible.

Yup. I can almost guarantee you can do it. I say “almost” because there are things out of my control, like you. But otherwise, you being the hard-working, committed business owner that I know you are, I can guarantee you’ll get there.

Ready to know how? Make a plan.

Yup, that’s it. Make a plan.

Here’s the catch. Not just any plan will do. Writing a half-assed list of things to do and some waffly goals does not constitute a plan. You need a well-constructed, well thought-out, 3-layer-deep plan.

You need to start with a financial goal, no matter what it is, and work backwards from there (and before you start telling me you don’t have financial goals, just stop, immediately). You run a business? You have a financial goal.

What will it take you to get to that goal? What milestones, projects, people, and time will it take? Break those down until you have micro sized tasks.

Here’s the number one secret about entrepreneurs and planning – no one goes deep enough. If you want to reach your goals, you need to wake up every day and know exactly what you’re working on today in that tiny slice of time you have to work on your business.

Don’t wimp out on your plan. It’s the difference between floundering and successful, no matter how reasonable or aggressive it is.

Tell me in the comments…

Do you have a plan? How deep is it? Do you know exactly what you’ll be working on tomorrow to move your business forward?
