“I Literally Just Exhaled When You Said That”
You can feel hesitation brewing and that’s a great big red flag, because here’s what I know to be true: if it feels wrong, you won’t do it.
“I literally just exhaled when you said that”
If you have ever doubted that friction in your business can manifest itself physically, just ask my clients. This beautiful lady, for example, could literally feel her body relax when we realigned one of her deliverables to her model.
Yet, we continue to pursue projects and tasks and activities just because we think we need to.
I work with my clients to design the best businesses for them, and them alone. While I work through a structured framework for finding that “perfect for them” business model, a huge and important part of what I watch for is not their language at all, but their facial expressions and body positions.
Sometimes it’s a blink of the eye, sometimes it’s the way they turn away when we talk about something. Sometimes it’s their tone of voice and how it changes.
When I see these signals, I know to dig a little deeper and ask the right questions, or push a little further into that spot.
You can literally feel hesitation brewing and that’s a great big red flag, because here’s what I know to be true:
If it feels wrong, you won’t do it.
Whatever it is will become a perpetual back burner item. It will sit on the list and plague you for eternity.
So, I’d rather watch for these signs and use them to learn more about my customer and continue building the foundations they really need.
(This is also why I insist on working with my clients over the long term, because this stuff takes time)
Not ready to hire a strategist or a coach?
The good news is that you don’t have to (though I’m here for you if you do!).
All you have to do is listen to your body. It sends out an amazing number of signals constantly. You can do this methodically, even.
Create a list of things you need to do. Go through each one and just notice how it feels. Not how your mind rationalizes it, but how your body reacts.
Do you have knots in your stomach? Does your face grimace? Do you feel anxious or hold your breath?
All of these are indications of friction. When you know it’s there, you can start to dig in to why.
Tell me in the comments…
Do a scan of your current list… do you feel friction? Where?
