If It Takes Time, Let It

You are producing high quality creative work that will not be high quality creative work if you don’t let it develop.

If it takes time, let it.

This one is for you creatives. I know you’re out there and I know you’re listening.

You’re the ones who are wondering why you’re “so slow”.

Why everyone else in your industry seems to get things done so quickly but you’re still over here, slaving away, halfway done… always halfway done.

You’ve tried so hard to work faster but your brain feels like it’s on fire. You’ve tried being more productive or organized but nothing seems to work.

Let me remind you of something…

You’re not in a factory. Nor are you punching a clock.

You are producing high quality creative work that will not be high quality creative work if you don’t let it develop.

Here’s what I can tell you definitively: the difference between someone who rushes their work and someone who is deliberate, thoughtful and just *knows* when it’s finally done… is absolutely obvious.

I work with two creatives who are what I would consider some of the best in their field. They are both “slow” (in their minds). They both have bemoaned the hours it’s taken them to get something done, as if there is some international yardstick for creative work.

They both work consistently at a world-class level and deliver work that creates tremendous results.

That is not a fluke. It is their process. Their process is a journey. It’s something they actually experience physically and the creative bits have to take root and take over before they can be delivered.

So instead of trying to get them working faster, we raised their rates, because that kind of work …. the kind that consistently creates incredible results and wows their clients… that work is WORTH IT.

Don’t rush. If it takes time, let it. You and your clients will both win in the end.

Tell me in the comments…

I’m rooting for you! Let me know where you think you are “too slow” right now and how you plan to take your time.
