If You Don’t Want To Do It, Don’t

I hate writing sales pages. I love writing, but I hate writing sales pages. Don’t ask me why, but they’ve always been a block for me.

Earlier in my business, I would have sat for weeks and weeks not writing them. I would have done my laundry 18 times over and bathed the cat before I wrote my sales pages. And, therefore, it would take me weeks and weeks before I could sell something.

Then I discovered these really cool things called copy writers (looking at you, Jacqueline Fisch). They LIKE that stuff. They WANT you to bring them that stuff. What?!

At first I thought, “Oh, hell to the no. I will NOT lose my running for Entrepreneur of the Year just because I could possibly outsource something.” And I spent a few gazillion more weeks not writing my sales pages.

Suddenly, they had to be done. I had to launch. A deadline (let’s call it an opportunity) fell upon me and I caved. Because I was busy, you know, serving customers, I had to choose. Begrudgingly, I asked for some help. I cringed and handed over my precious copy. 24 hours later, I had sales pages ready for review.

What was this sorcery?! What spell had been cast upon my unwilling soul? Was it possible? And true?

Yep, it was. And now I’m addicted. I keep my copy writer’s coffer full and suddenly my business moves along at lightning speed, on pace with my ideas and relentless pivots. It’s a glorious thing, removing friction from your business.

It’s also a very common experience, that one I had. Maybe for you, it’s systems integration. Or for that guy over there, it’s graphic design.

Is it your superpower? No? Then you don’t have to do it.

The International Council of Entrepreneur Police cancelled the “Do Everything And Burn Yourself Out” badge a few years back so you stand to gain nothing by trying to be a business hero.

There are eleventy billion service providers out there, ready to help you out, cause the thing they do best is the thing you’d rather deworm the dog than do yourself.

Let them.

What’s the one thing you would much rather outsource? Why aren’t you hiring help for it already?
