Only You Own Your Time
Time management issues are symptoms of a bigger problem that no system is going to solve.
Only you own your time.
If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone tell me they just “don’t have time for everything”, I wouldn’t have to be selling anything ever again.
It’s not so much that the sentiment is incorrect, but rather that it’s always delivered with this tone of resignation, as if their circumstance were completely beyond their control, and that they were the victim of some drive-by tasking, where an anonymous force continually piled upon their To Do list, from under which they would never emerge.⠀
“Time Management” is viewed as a tactical problem to be solved by systems and cute planners and a handful of highlighters.
Actually, time management issues are symptoms of a bigger problem that no system is going to solve.
If you’re constantly under water and grasping for a lifeline, here’s the good news:
The problem is you.
And why is that good news? Because that means you are fully in control to change your circumstance.
You don’t need a system, you need to shift some beliefs first. Specifically:⠀
⠀
That you’re not in control.⠀
That “busy” equals “effective”.⠀
That you’re missing out.
Once you shift your thinking about your time, things get a lot less stressful, and then you can get to work figuring out your systems and processes.⠀
Tell me in the comments…
What is one shift you can make in your thinking about time?
