Slow Your Business Down

When your business gets time and room to breathe, you win. You win by listening and watching, taking action, and trying new things. You get a recognizable brand, a consistent and loyal following, and scars. Scars that point you increasingly towards the perfect place for you.⠀

Slow Your Business Down

MASSIVE RESULTS! HUGE GROWTH! 6 FIGURES IN 6 DAYS!! MILLIONAIRE IN A MINUTE!

These are actual claims I have seen in the last 7 days around the Internet.

Sigh.

Who actually believes this crap? I can tell you who doesn’t – anyone who has been building their business for a while. Anyone who has seen how many things influence a sale, how many times you have to try something before you get it right.

Who *wants* to believe this? All those business owners judging themselves for not making 8 figures after three months in business. All those entrepreneurs who were sold on this being easy, and out of savings now, 6 months later.

After 5 hours of rolled-up-sleeves business wrangling today, with hard-won wins for these courageous clients, I can tell you that nothing is farther from the truth.

When your business gets time and room to breathe, you win. You win by listening and watching, taking action, and trying new things. You get a recognizable brand, a consistent and loyal following, and scars. Scars that point you increasingly towards the perfect place for you.

Here’s a secret: people buy from people they know/recognize/trust. If you’re trying to sell with some slap-happy, high volume ad campaign before you’ve had time to become known, you might get some early purchase volume but it won’t last. You cannot sustain anything that does not have recognition and trust. And for those of you who have ever been in any sort of relationship, you know that trust takes time.

I want everyone to stop striving for some elusive 8-figure goal and start focusing on being really goddamn good at what you do, authentically present for all your clients and engaged and helpful in your communities. This is what your business foundation is made of, and it’s what will give you sustainable growth over time.

Let’s start a movement. A #slowbusiness movement. Let’s get back to building quality businesses with thought and care. That slippery slimy rabbit hole of quick hit sales will only leave you craving more and eventually kill your business soul.

Who’s with me? #slowbusiness 4 ever!

Tell me in the comments…

What crazy internet claims have you read recently?
