There Is a Reason Behind Everything You Are Compelled to Do

You may not understand it until long after you’ve done it, but if you are compelled to take an action, shift direction, follow a path, have a conversation, buy something, sell something, whatever it may be – there’s a reason for it.

There Is a Reason Behind Everything You Are Compelled to Do

I’m not a woo-woo type of person. I don’t subscribe to a lot of theories around universal energy or collective subconscious, though I’m always open to the possibility of something new being proven.

What I do believe, though, is that these very same concepts or theories are actually a form of us knowing, inherently, what we need or want, but being too overwhelmed or distracted or busy with all the things to be able to synthesize clearly what our brains are telling us.

The brain tells us things that it knows to be true by giving us lots of signals in our bodies. What we call “feeling it in our guts” is our intuition and knowledge shaking our cages, compelling us to take notice.

Whatever you call it and wherever you believe it has originated, listen. Listen and do. Do this thing because it’s something your brain knows must be done. Your brain is the source of everything you feel. Your brain creates physical and emotional sensation. So of course when the brain wants us to notice something, it will send us these signals.

You may not have an explanation for why this thing must be done. You may not be certain how it’s going to turn out. You may not understand it until long after you’ve done it, but if you are compelled to take an action, shift direction, follow a path, have a conversation, buy something, sell something, whatever it may be – there’s a reason for it.

The reason may be so you can learn a lesson. Or it may be because you need to test something out and get the answer before you can move confidently down a certain path. It may be because you’ve wanted to be a writer, or an artist, or an astronaut for so many years but your logical mind has always talked you out of it.

This isn’t magic or ethereal. You know something and you just haven’t reasoned it out yet. We don’t pay nearly enough attention to the value of our experiences and so we discount our strong urges, because we don’t trust ourselves.

Tomorrow, do whatever compels you. Take the path of least resistance and just let your instinct take you through the day. You may be surprised what you learn about yourself.

Tell me in the comments…

Have you followed your gut? What did you learn? Where have you ignored your instincts?
